A Beautiful Sunday

Many thanks to all who made our Building Dedication service a special time this past Sunday. We had a packed house of many APC family and friends as we worshipped and gave thanks to the Lord for his faithful provision and blessings on our church. We gave thanks to our building committee, our elders and deacons renewed their covenant to care for God’s church and our people consecrated themselves and this place to God’s glory and service. Afterwards we transformed our sanctuary into a fellowship hall and enjoyed a delicious meal together. All around it was a special day of worship. We concluded the day with an outstanding concert by Matthew Smith and Indelible Grace. It was an great evening of worship and song together. Celebrating God’s Covenant Faithfulness

When Jesus promised to build his church, he was not talking bricks and mortar, but rather of building a new community of people transformed by his grace and living for his glory. We are thankful for the way God has built his church at Ambassador over the last twelve years bringing together a gospel-centered community of people who love God and love one another. And we are also thankful that now God has given us a new place to meet together for worship and to serve him in ministry. This Sunday we will dedicate our new worship facility, and we hope you will join us at 10:15 a.m. as we give thanks to God for his ongoing provision and faithfulness to his church at Ambassador.

They paved paradise…

Well maybe not paradise, but they did put up a parking lot at our new church building. The paving is completed and you can now drive smoothly onto the property. (see pic below)

Speaking of paving, I’m reminded of the prophet’s words in Isaiah 40:3-5. “A voice cries, ‘In the wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord…Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.”

Jesus came in the flesh to reveal the glory of God and to pave the way to a restored relationship with our heavenly Father, a relationship that had been broken and barred by the insurmoutable obstacle of our sin and rebellion. As you head towards Christmas, perhaps your life seems a bit rocky and rough. Perhaps there are mountains that seem insurmountable or valleys that seem uncrossable: broken relationships, financial hardships, failed dreams, marriage/parenting struggles, physical illness or other trials of life.

Take a moment to remember that the glory of the Lord has been revealed in Jesus Christ. Because Christ has come and through faith in Him, the trials of this life may not disappear, but we can face them with the confidence, strength and grace that God provides. He loves us and is for us and one day all those rough places truly will be smoothed out forever.

Remember this Christmas that Jesus came to pave the way to paradise!

At the groundbreaking ceremony we were given prayer cards. Here are a couple of excerpts to assist you as you pray for our building:

The Foundation: Father, You are our rock, our sure foundation. Please make the foundation of this church securely rest on You. Please make the physical foundation solid.

The Framing: Jesus, in You all things hold together. Please hold this church together, its people perfectly built together using the gifts that You have given to strengthen one another for Your kingdom work. Please make the framing of this building strong, accurately joined together.

Building sub-committees: We need your help!

As Steve Brown stated in the congregational meeting today, there are seven sub-committees representing each of the major areas of the new building. Here at Ambassador, we are blessed with folks having many different skills and talents. We urge you to prayerfully consider becoming involved, either as a member of a sub-committee or simply volunteering to consult on some particular aspect of an area.

Please contact the chair for the area in which you desire to serve. It’s a great time to get involved!

Building Update

Dear Friends,
A quick update on the building progress. We are thankful that our rezoning petition passed the town council and our site plan approval should come through any day now. An architect has been secured to draw up our building plans and once we have those, we will be able to negotiate a formal contract with the builder and apply for building permits. There will be more congregational involvement in this next phase of building construction as we put together subcommittees to oversee different decisions that need to be made about the building details. Please continue to pray for smooth sailing with the town, with our new neighbors around the property, and with the the builder and subcontractors with whom we will be working.

Building update: APC site plan was unanimously approved by the Apex town council

Tonight the site plan that we submitted to the Town of Apex was unanimously approved by the town council. We are now waiting for some additional staff approvals, which should happen over the next couple of weeks. Meanwhile, the architect is working on the drawings.

God continues to bless us in this process!

Building update: Plans submitted to Apex

On February 5th, we submitted our site plans to the town of Apex. This included the site layout, landscaping, building elevations, and more (14 pages of drawings). We should begin to get feedback later this month from them on the issues that we need to address. I’d encourage everyone to pray that this goes well. Getting through this process quickly would be a blessing!

Steve Brown discussed the committee’s current activities at the info meeting after church on 12/10/06. The main points are below, along with viewable site and building plans.

We would like your feedback regarding the floor plan in particular. Please submit your comments or questions through the website–anonymously if you prefer–by clicking here.

Update:
* Preparing to negotiate a contract with Farrior, the construction company
* Working on a site plan in conjunction with the site engineer
* Finishing the floor plan
* Working with the site engineer to submit a plan to the Town of Apex
* Working on the exterior materials and design with the architect

The most pressing deadline is to get everything ready to submit to the Town of Apex in February. We believe that our plan will be considered a “minor” plan, which would mean we could receive approval as soon as the end of April. Apex requires our site plan to conform with its “small town” requirements, which place constraints on the site layout and building exterior.

If everything goes well, we hope to be in the building around Easter ‘08. The current cost estimate is $1.3M – $1.4M.
