Our Elders

Steve Brown

Steve and his wife Jill were among the original members when the church was organized in 2003. He has been an elder at Ambassador since 2008. Steve is a civil-environmental engineer and serves as a department director in local government. Jill is controller for a large law firm. They have been married for over 25 years. They are very active in many of the church's ministries, particularly teaching and hospitality. They enjoy reading, history, travelling, entertaining, and NC State athletics. Steve enjoys studying the Scriptures and theology, and is particularly interested in how they inform history and worldview.

Tony Clark

A true native, Tony grew up just a few miles from Ambassador, and graduated from Apex High School before attending NC State and then going to optometry school in Philadelphia. Tony and Dee Dee have attended Ambassador with their six children since 2004, and he has been an elder since 2006. Tony and Dee Dee are both optometrists in the area, and enjoy leading small groups and mentoring young Christians and families.

Jim Compton

Don Dyksterhouse

Don and Mary began attending Ambassador in 2009, soon after their move to Apex. They have been married 40 years, have 4 children and 10 grandchildren. Don is retired from Duke Energy. He and Mary have led numerous small groups and enjoy meeting with people in casual settings to discuss how God is changing their lives through His Word. Don and Mary's commitment to growing their relationship with God has sustained their marriage and provided the basis for their interactions with others. Don enjoys golf, while Mary enjoys tennis, and they are always available for a round, a set, or a chat.

Don Knox

Don and Annette live in Cary where he is a national director with Cru, an international campus ministry. They have four grown children, one of whom Ambassador supports as a missionary with Cru in Sweden. Don and Annette are founding members and love being involved in many aspects of the church including the worship team, small groups, teaching children, and our women's ministry. On a nice day, you might also find Don fishing the little pond on our church property.

Gary Shearin

Gary and his wife Missy along with their children have been a part of Ambassador for over 15 years. Gary has served as an elder in the church since 2003 and enjoys being able to walk alongside of families as they strive to understand and fulfill God’s will and purpose in their families and individual lives. Gary is passionate about sharing Christ with young people, serving in teaching roles in children and youth ministries for most of his adult life including Ambassador’s Kingdom Kids program and Teen Community Bible Study. Gary has served in many leadership positions at several technology companies in the area, leveraging the gifts and talents that God has given him to lead, nurture, and develop the employees that have been put in his care. Gary sees both his role as an elder at Ambassador and his role as a leader of people in the workforce as opportunities to shepherd others and to help them reach their full potential.
